Even in calmer times, there are serious environmental concerns about our growing desire for our water supply to come from within plastic containers. In the U.S. alone, it’s estimated that 29 billion bottles of water are purchased every year, with around 80% ending up in landfill sites. He says evidence suggesting fluoride’s potential for harm warrants reconsidering its addition to drinking water.

It’s thought that with the advances we’ve seen in dental hygiene over the years alongside the fluoride in our toothpaste, that the addition of the chemical to the water system is simply not necessary. While we wait for the powers to be to decide, families can instead rely on a reverse osmosis system to filter out fluoride, something that a charcoal-based filter (like the one most commonly found in homes) can’t.

The presence of sodium in our tap water has long been a concern, with even bottled water often containing high levels of the substance. For those who experience liver or kidney problems or for sufferers of high blood pressure, keeping sodium levels as low as possible is essential. The reverse osmosis system is critical to providing uncontaminated and sodium free water for those whose health relies upon it.

There have been criticisms of reverse osmosis systems. These are mainly because of their excellent ability to remove contaminants from the water. This then means that healthy substances such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc are also removed.
