MILTON, ON – September 16, 2026 – Canadian singer-songwriter Beej Bishop wasn’t planning to make an album in Prince Edward Island.

During a family vacation, Bishop found himself around a campfire with a guitar and decided, spontaneously, to see if he could record 10 songs in a single day. The result is Campfire Songs, an intentionally intimate collection captured on a phone in the middle of a family trip, arriving September 21, 2026.

The idea came shortly after a conversation with acclaimed Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith at Under the Spire, where Sexsmith offered Bishop a simple piece of encouragement: 45 is young.

For Bishop, the comment landed.

“I’ve been writing songs for almost 30 years,” says Bishop. “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking I should have done more with them. Ron basically reminded me that 45 isn’t old. It made me think, ‘Okay, then what am I waiting for?’”

That mindset had already led Bishop to begin seriously working through his catalogue, beginning with his album Imperfectionist. But Campfire Songs came from a completely different impulse.

“I was on vacation with my family in PEI, sitting around a campfire, drinking wine and playing guitar,” Bishop says. “I thought, ‘Why don’t I just record 10 songs today?’ So I did.”

There was no elaborate recording setup. No studio. No lengthy production schedule. Just a phone, a guitar, a voice, a campfire and a day to see what would happen.

The resulting album captures the circumstances in which it was created rather than trying to disguise them. The recordings are immediate, imperfect and personal—a musical snapshot of a family vacation and a songwriter deciding that there was still plenty of time to get his songs out into the world.

Campfire Songs is part of Bishop’s larger effort to finally record and release the substantial catalogue of songs he has accumulated over nearly three decades, while continuing to write new material.

“I don’t want to spend the next 20 years wondering why I didn’t release these songs,” Bishop says. “I’ve got a lot of music. I’m finally going to do something with it.”

Campfire Songs will be released September 25, 2026, on major streaming platforms.
