McT Real Estate Group, a North Park real estate team with over two decades in the neighborhood, hosted a free knife and tool sharpening event on June 25, 2026. The gathering took place on Redwood Street between Felton and Gregory in North Park’s Altadena neighborhood, one of the most sought-after pockets in 92104.
The idea was simple. Invite neighbors to bring whatever dull blades they had lying around and get them professionally sharpened for free. Dan Jacobus of Razor Sharp Mobile Sharpening set up on-site and worked through pieces one by one while people hung out and caught up.
The original plan was 20 RSVP spots. About 30 people showed up. Over four hours, Jacobus sharpened roughly 75 to 80 individual pieces. People brought kitchen knives, garden pruners, hedge shears. One person walked up with a machete. Nobody asked questions:-).
McT Real Estate Group covered the full cost. No catch. No listing presentation at the end. Just a useful afternoon for the people who live on these streets, clients and friends.
Why a Knife Sharpening Event?
North Park real estate is a relationship business. You can’t just drop a mailer in someone’s mailbox once a quarter and expect them to call you when it’s time to sell. People want to work with someone they actually know.

Everyone has a drawer full of dull knives they never get around to fixing. We figured we’d take care of it.”
The crowd was a mix of long-time homeowners, newer residents, and a few people who had just moved to the area. Conversations bounced around from backyard fruit trees to kitchen remodels to which taco spot on 30th Street is the best. That’s what happens when nobody is trying to sell you anything.
Part of a Larger Community Commitment
This wasn’t a one-off. The knife sharpening event follows a shredding and e-waste event in April that drew over 100 North Park residents. The team also sponsors McKinley Elementary School and shows up at neighborhood events throughout the year.
For this North Park real estate group, these events come from a simple idea: if you’re going to work in a neighborhood for 20 years, you should actually be part of it. The Altadena block where the event was held is the same area where the team has sold dozens of homes. These are their neighbors, not their leads.
